    Dear Rachel,

We are working diligently with Pets for the Environment in Washington, D.C. to try to promote safe food and products for pets, those without toxics in them. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get much press without people like you who have “pull”. Please consider looking at our dog and cat soaps, and our pet products at
    http://www.coastalclassiccreations.com/catanddog.html and
    http://www.coastalclassiccreatoins.com/pets.html.

We would like to be able to donate more money to Pets for the Environment and maybe even sell them on line so that we can give them a good push.

    All the best,

    Joseph Jackowitz, President and CEO

It made me cry to read this story, but I smiled as I realized that this dog was going to make it despite the horrid way it was treated. Look at the love and trust conveyed in this animal’s eyes. Why are there people in this world like the man who beat this animal and MIchael Vick? What a waste of oxygen these men are and all those like them.

This story brought me to tears. I am so glad to hear that she’s doing much better. I don’t understand how people can be cruel to animals. They bring such joy in my life.
I pray they catch the man who did this and bring him to justice. Personally I think there should be more punishment for animal cruelty. Maybe beat that man and throw him over a fence and see how he likes it.

I am so glad that Spirit’s story will have a happy ending. I wonder if it is possible that as there are updates on Spirit’s progress that there could be updates with the man that abused Spirit. I would feel much better knowing that he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law!!!

Thank you Rachael for all your kindness

I am so amazed at how disgusting people can be towards animals, especially young animals, babies. However, I’m quite pleased to hear that she has survived and looks to be recovering well. I cannot believe how some people can fall so low and be so cruel to such adorable creatures, who too can feel and show emotions. Hopefully they will be able to identify the man and give him what he deserves.

    Rachel,

I didn’t know you did all the stuff for animals-they need angels like you with the ‘pull’ who can broadcast it out to get even more help.
I think you are an awesome cook, love, love, love you.
Keep smiling and God bless you Rachel!!

Thank you for being a public voice for those
who cannot speak for themselves. Those of us
who help out here in our small way do our best
but we need for more people with the exposure
that you have to speak out too.

It is wonderful for you to take the time to recognize the animals in this world that need our help.

One thing I wish was given more publicity is the issue of puppy mills. Regardless of what anyone tells you, puppy mills are where pet stores gett 99.9% of their puppies.

If we want to truly help abused and neglected animals in this country, we need to stop buying dogs and cats from pet stores. You are not ‘helping’ that poor puppy - you are allowing a cycle of abuse and neglect to continue by supporting it.

And you will probably wind up with a genetically challenged dog with some serious health issues.

    Thanks for letting me vent!!!!

Thanks for letting us know how little Spirit is doing. And thank you for all you do for
all animals. I am looking forward to you cat chow. My little Ebony is not really a food snob (prefers Purina to Iams),but I like the idea of giving her healthy food. If I undersgtand correctly, part of the proceeds from you cat food will benefit animals such as Spirit.

Spirit is such a cutie. I have rescued 2 abused dogs myself and this hit close to home. Whoever is responsible for this should recieve the same compassion and respect he showed Spirit. Thanks for letting everyone know how she is doing. I pray she finds a good home where they treat her like a princess.

Bless you for your continued love and support of our furry angels. We desperately need to get the word out on the abuse of defenseless dogs in puppymills so the public is made aware. I work in cocker spaniel rescue. My heart breaks everyday on the abuse of these sweet dogs. Many rescues of all dog breeds will be participating in Puppymill Awareness Day all over the country on Sept. 20th. I will be in Lancaster, Pa. the puppymill capital of the country. Please make your public aware of this. http://www.awarenessday.org

Hi everyone! Rachel how terrific that you are helping Spirit. I jumped online to get the rest of what I need for shopping and saw this. It made me so sad and as I was reading it, Nico, my 8 month old red-nose pit came up and nudged at my toes. I had to stop and give her a hug…I couldn’t handle it if someone did something like that to her. You are awesome Rachel and I hope others are paying attention to your example.

I own a dog and cat, plus a hamster and two guinea pigs. Plus we now have a stray cat that has 6 kittens. She would not go near anyone of us till I started to feed her everyday. She know allows me to pet her and scratch her head by her ears. Everytime I see her I call her by the name my kids call her. Even though she is a stray the kids love her like one of our pets. I was told not to feed her, but we are a family that has to feed a stray animal. We treat them like they belong here. I can not see an animal go hungry. We have taken to leaving our greenhouse door open so she can get to the mice that live in it. We have had people who do not want their dog or cat any more drop them off at my house. At one time we had three dogs, I am down to 1. The cats I was given, I found good home for, but the dogs I have kepted. I would of kepted the cats, but my cat does not play well with other cats. So we have taken to being a one cat family. Dogs, my kids keep saying the more the merrier. Expecially when mom has to feed them all. My husband said he hopes we don’t get any more strays for a while, but if we do, I will deal with it like I always do.

Angels come when you least expect them. In March of 2004, I was looking online at the local animal rescue website at a dog that my friend was adopting. On the way to her dog’s page I found what I wanted for my birthday,Sarah. Sarah is a beautiful auburn color border collie. She was 10 years old and her “folks” had given her up because they had built a new house and didn’t want the shedding. So, after Sarah was introduced to our other pet family she came to live with us. In June 2004, our oldest son was critically injured in Iraq. He survived but faced many surguries and rehab. He was very closed off and depressed-then one day as I was standing doing dishes in the kitchen, I heard him talking to someone-the someone was Sarah. He told her all his fears, emotions, and pent up feelings. They went for long walks together and slowly he came back to us-both physically and mentally. He still faces obstacles and is 100% disabled but HE HAS SARAH. Don’t be afraid to adopt an older dog you never know what joys they will bring or when you are adopting an angel.

Thank you for helping to save Spirit. I would like to see the same thing done to the scum that hurt that beautiful little dog. It’s hard to read these kinds of stories because they make me cry, but I am thankful she is safe now.

I love getting the update on Spirit. What has happened to her was horrible. When this man is caught he should be treated much more harshly than the current laws allow. This also sadly happens to human babies/childrenas well. Ahh! I will never understand how a person csn look at themselves in the mirror everyday and be ok with themselves.

How can anyone hurt an animal? I have had pets all my life and currently have two shelter adopted cats. I love them. I see them as God’s creation and a GIFT to us. Unfortunately this is only one pet who was caught on tape…but there are so many out there suffering…but saving one at a time is better than none. Thanks for sharing the story and doing something!
