With the warmer weather coming a slew of blondes are sure to follow, and there are few things in life worse than over processed bleached blondes with their roots waiting to snap off! So, to help us get through the lightening stages, my dear friend and color guru Patrick Mcivor is here to help our blonde beauties for the upcoming summer months. You can find Patrick at: Patrick Mcivor Color Studio, 310 Stoke Park Rd. Bethlehem, PA (610) 882-1081
Hair color and bleach are two choices that can lighten up your world, but choosing can sometimes be confusing. So, let’s share some easy ways to make your best choice. First you should know the difference between hair color and bleach. Patrick states, a single process hair color is done with one color and the lift, deposit, and tone are all created in one application. With all-over bleach the hair is first lightened and then in a separate second step it is toned with a deposit of color.
If you want to go lighter all over, leave the bleach to the pros and look to hair color, as bleach is more damaging to the hair and can yellow much faster. However, bleach done right is

better than coloring multiple times to achieve the result desired.
Note - one application to one application bleach is a more aggressive lightener and therefore more damaging. Also, remember bleach should never be used on chemically relaxed hair.
If your hair is brown and you are looking to be lighter, an ash-toned color, can keep you from looking like a carrot. For natural blondes, a golden blonde hair color can give the hair sparkle and life.
If you were thinking of more highlights, not an all-over color: for natural blondes both choices, hair color or bleach, are great. For brunettes subtle natural highlights can be used through hair coloring (up to 2 shades lighter) but, if you want lighter blonde highlights bleach will lighten your hair and lift past unwanted orange. Do a few highlights first until you see the finished result, then next time you can do more. Also, understand that with highlights you may use hair color or bleach.
So, be blonde and be fun because here comes the sun!
