I have a 73 year old German Lady Friend who has spent her life saving Dogs and Horses, etc. She has aound 60 Dogs at this time and she works daily cleaning pens, triming, and runing pets to Vets. She spends around $2,500.00 a month out of her monthly retirment money, which is most of what she has coming in on her kids as she calls them. As of late, she has had two or three of her big Dogs Houses stole along with other stuff because she can’t watch it all during the night. TWO big Goat Dogs were dumped ut on her and she has been able o catch one of them, though she feeds both daily. Here lately the Law has been called on her twice, and they are saying she will be arrested if she don’t catch that Dog which is running loose. The Law even tried to catch it and couldn’t. This gal need some help from someone, I’m down and can’t help her myself. God Bless, Jimmie

Hi! My name is Margaret and The show today 11/10/09 hit home. I started a small business about 4 years ago to help me to quit my job so that I could take care of my elderly Mother. I love animals so I thought since other people love pets I would start a grooming business and a freind of mind suggested that I raise dogs and sell them. I thought this sounded good so I started with just a couple of small dogs. My grooming started to catch on and I was about to raise and sell puppies. Well it didn’t take long and everyone who knows me from pass places that I worked started calling me and bringing me dogs that they found or that were unwanted. So I started taking in what I could which isn’t as much as I would like but I have been able to rescue and place some in new homes. I have kept more than placed. My mother passed away Feb.14,2009 and of all people who really didn’t care for dogs stood behind me and encouraged me. I don’t know what I’m going to do without her and the way money is these days and loosing my job when my mother died. I’m barely making it. We don’t have any non-kill shelter in our community. I’m really happy that there is someone like you is out there helping. I wish this lady all the luck our small friends need all the help they can get. One day I hope to beable to do what she is doing. I have looked on the net and can’t find any information I need. Do you have any information on where I could go to learn more. Thanks for all the help Rachel Ray. I watch your show all the time and love to cook also. Thanks again.

My name is Karla and about 2 1/2 years ago, I decided to volunteer at our local German Shepherd Rescue. I had adopted a dog from them a couple years prior and had noticed that there was not a lot of activity on the website. I got the whole thing dumped in my lap within the first couple of months. Since that time, with the help of my daughter and a very few volunteer, I have adopted out almost 300 dogs.
Last year, I was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer. I had surgery and 6 rounds of chemo, all the while still working with my beloved shepherds. I laughingly tell people I was lucky enought to get cancer and have a good cancer insurance policy, because I used most of it to pay for food, vet bills and every thing else that was needed.
I was let go of the good paying job that I had shortly after I finished chemo because the owner didn’t understand me not being able to keep up with everything she layed in my lap (which was a lot).
I have to turn down so many dogs because I just don’t have enough money to keep paying for all the food and vet bills that I already have. I don’t have any corporate sponsorship, only donations from adoptions.
I would appreciate any and all help and advice that you could give.
Thank you,
Karla Wilson

I am a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western NY and we nearing the completion of a wish of a 12-year old cancer survivor (Jenna) whose wish is to improve the conditions of the local animal shelter where she volunteers her time. The project (a new 1300 sq. ft. cattery) began in 2007 and should be completed in the Spring of 2010, provided we raise the remaining $10,000 for the project. Here is a brief video clip of the background of “Jenna’s Wish”:

To date Jenna has raised $85,000 in cash and in-kind donations for the Beverly Animal Shelter in Waterloo, NY. Jenna has been cancer free for the past two years and her unselfish “wish” has been an inspiration to the community and all who meet her!

Does anyone know how I can contact Rachael about a dog rescue in dire need of assistance? I’ve looked all over her website but there are no links for pets.
Daphneyland, a Basset Hound rescue in CA, is in danger of closing and they have 100 senior dogs. Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I am writing this letter because I watched your show on 11/10/09 about you helping the no kill shelters. I know a couple in Blackshear GA that has opened a no kill shelter and they have gotten their 501c. As of right now they have around 78 dogs and I don’t know how many cats. They will be looking out the window and see strange dogs in their yard that people have dropped off when their backs are turned. H e works construction and she works at our local hospital. Right now their vet bill is over $1500.00 and they spend around $800.00 a month on food, if not more. They make sure that all the animals are spayed or neutered before they even try to adopt them out. They give ths animals their shots before they are even allowed to be put in with the rest of the animals. They don’t turn an animal away and they are getting overwhelmed. I saw where Rachel helps out the no kill shelter on the show on 11/10/09. The phone number for this shelter is 912-449-3075 and the name of the shelter is All About Animals Inc. Please condider them for a donation because they really need it. The name of the people that is running this shelter is Rick and Nancy. Thanks for reading this.

Hi!
I live in Macoupin County, Carlinville, Illinois. I support and would like to call attention to the Macoupin County Tails Association they are trying to build an animal shelter. The shelter that the county uses now is a small metal building, that believe me, you wouldn’t want to put any animal in! It’s all we have. So, PLEASE choose Macoupin County Tails to win the contest! We are in DESPERATE need! Hug your pet tonight for us!

Any way you can show the # of votes each organization currently has??
they show it for local elections –why not mutt madness?
11.17.09 @ 10:24 am
I would like to thank Rachael Ray on behalf of Macoupin TAILS. This has been so exciting for us all. Our entire community came togather to rally votes. We had our organization exposed through newspapers, radio, facebook, emails, and most importantly, just friends talking. People I didn’t even know would come up to me and ask me how TAILS was doing in the competition!
This was a great way to communicate our goal to a larger population of people. Thank you!
I would hope everyone that voted for TAILS would continue to vote in the competition. All the remaining organizations are deserving. I have a few favorites (after TAILS of course) that I’m going to vote for!
We appreciate the chance you gave us and God bless you for what you do for organizations that work to help animals!

Hi - I live on Cape Cod and my friend has a 2 year old yellow lab named Toby that has elbow dysplasia and the med’s cost her $100.00 a month. She has to find a home for him because of certain situations in her life, she cannot afford his medication. Does anyone know of any organization on or near Cape that may be able to help her pay for Toby’s medication? She loves him so much and she is torn over this economic situation. Thank you.

Well folks, POOCH is out of the competition. The two shelters that advancedinto the last round, Last Chance Ranch and Angel’s Gate, are both hospice-related, and very deserving organizations. Congratulations to both of them and thanks to all of you for your support! Thanks to the entire team at Rachel Ray who put this wonderful competition together. You’ve increased awareness across the country about the plight of unwanted dogs, and you’ve helped us get on the radar of people in our neck of the woods, too. It’s been a wonderful experience. Thanks, everyone, and don’t be a stranger… visit us at http://www.pooch.org!!!

Dear Rachel and Producers,
I just wanted to thank you for the Mutt Madness contest and let you know about my experience with Angel’s Gate. During the aftermath of Katrina I worked with the founder of Angel’s Gate, Susan Marino in New Orleans. While we all worked hard to save as many animals from the floods that we could, Susan Marino was TIRELESS. We would work 16 hours a day caring for the rescued dogs and fall into our car (where we were sleeping) for about 4 hours sleep every night. I don’t think Susan slept. She would wake us up at the crack of dawn to get started again as all of the animals in our care needed help. While most of us stayed a couple of weeks and had to get back to our lives, Susan stayed for months. While I have not been to her place in NY, I know the person she is the and dedication she has. She is one of the most amazing women I have ever met. Good luck to Angel’s Gate!

I was watching the show this morning and am truly grateful for Rachael Ray and trying to help all of these animals. It is horrible to see all the pets that are abandoned and need homes. I have a pitbull/lab/german sheperd mix that I rescued from our local shelter, and he is an incredible dog. He is so playful and plays with my fiance’s and I’s new puppies like they were human babies. I do not agree with the banning of certain breeds. I think, that just like with people, each dog is different and there are so many things that can happen in the early life of a puppy to determine its outcome. Thank you, Rachael Ray for promoting the saving of animals and helping them, and for trying to help change the “rap” of pitbulls.

I want to say how wonderful it is to have people like you in the world. The mutts madness contest is such a great gift to animals everywhere. I have voted every week. Animals are a gift and the most treasured gift you can have and when someone comes along and takes in animals that have already suffered and nurses them and cares for them the rest of their lives is an angel in my eyes. Hats off to Susan Morino of Angels Gate. Thank you Rachel Ray for your love and support of all animals

Dear Rachel, I’m writing to let you know that there are other “animal angels” beside you that really do care for our furry babies. In the early morning of May 14, of this year my house burned down, beside 2 of my kids being asleep, we had 3 dogs one was adopted from the North Shore Animal League, 8 cats that were neighbor hood strays we took in, and my Quaker parrot Brooklyn.
The kids thought quick to get as many of the animals out of the house but unfortunately we lost 3 cats Duke, Dot and Rolly. Rolly was the oldest, 10 years old Duke was 1 1/2 and Dot was just under a year. Brookly also didn’t survive due to the smoke. The dogs were ok and able to move into my in laws with us the cats however needed medical care for smoke inhalation. The Doctors and staff at Garden City Animal Hospital on Denton Ave. in New Hyde Park took in 4 of the cats for 3 weeks, gave them the medical care they needed and had the three cats cremated all at no charge to us. They also took up collections of clothing money and pet supplies.
During the days that followed that was such a great relief to know that all our animals were being
so well cared for. I am forever grateful for them. When we found a house that we could rent and would take all the animals we were all reunited and now everyone if finally adjusted to there new enviorment.
I just wanted to share this story with you.
P.S. One of the cats we call Mom jumped out the window and down a tree during the madness and we found her 4 days later.
