North Shore Animal League Posted by Rach on June 4, 2009 | 46 Comments

Yesterday was an exciting and emotional day for me.  I was given the Lewyt Humanitarian Award by the North Shore Animal League for my animal advocacy work and for the donations we have been able to make from the proceeds I have generated from the sales of my dog food, Rachael Ray Nutrish.  I’m pleased to say that we have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars (a growing number) in proceeds that I will continue to give to rescue and rehab organizations and people, such as NSAL.  The sad part of the lunch was listening to the statistics around puppy...

A word about 30 minute meals and how long it takes to cook my recipes Posted by Rach on April 13, 2009 | 67 Comments

Occasionally we get notes from people telling us that they love a recipe, but that it took them over 30 minutes to prepare.  I wanted to post a note about this in case there’s anyone else out there thinking the same thing. First of all, if you are a newbie in the kitchen, any recipe will take you longer than it should because you are just getting familiar with your bearings.  If you are holding a knife for the first time or still figuring out where you hid the paprika, cut yourself some slack.  Once you get more comfortable with your...

Miley and Me Posted by Rach on April 10, 2009 | 36 Comments

I never thought I could relate to a 16-year old so well, but then I met Miley Cyrus.  I just had to blog about how cool this girl is.  She’s only 16 years old but she’s so smart, funny, self-effacing, full of integrity and confidence, yet still a kid.  I feel like it took me 40 years to learn what she already knows!  I have so much in common with Miley and her father, the great Billy Ray, a true romantic!  Here are some of my favorite Miley and me similarities: We both love horses, in fact you know I’m a...

Austin was a hoot! Posted by Rach on April 6, 2009 | 10 Comments

We had another fantastic party at the South by Southwest Music Festival this year . I am not sure how next year can get any better, but we will be coming back and we will have another year of great music, food and hopefully Rose’s Mojitos. This year blew me away. I loved the bands we had last year, including Auto Vaughn, Scissors for Lefty and the Knux, but this year was a whole new lineup (except of course John’s band, The Cringe-you can expect them every year!). We had two levels to our party which...

South Beach fun in the sun Posted by Rach on February 27, 2009 | 27 Comments

This year was my favorite year in South Beach at the Food Network Wine and Food Festival. First of all, it was cooler than it usually is, which put me in a great mood. I hate it when it’s too hot, especially when I am cooking. Secondly, I hear the festival made $1.5M over what they expected to earn, and that all goes to the Florida International University and their various hospitality and restaurant programs. I am not surprised because the crowd was huge-over 3,000 people showed for the Kidz Kitchen cooking demonstration I did on...

My new bling Posted by Rach on February 25, 2009 | 63 Comments

Hey kids, hope everybody had a happy Valentine’s Day-I know I did and I’ll tell you why. I got a new ring and it is a beaut! So here’s the story- I usually take off my wedding rings when I am cooking with messy ingredients like ground meat. I get my hands all sticky and gunky from forming meatballs or burgers, which if you follow my cooking shows, is much of the time! You can say my rings have definitely taken a beating! Now, if I actually remember to take them off before I...

Good news about my throat! Posted by Rach on December 15, 2008 | 413 Comments

Hey kids, Thank you for all of your sweet notes and posts.  I have been touched with all of your well-wishes for my throat surgery, which was scheduled for this week.  For the past few weeks, my doctor has had me on an intensive new vocal therapy. Very serious stuff!  Well, all my hard work is paying off as they now think that the surgery can wait and may not even need to happen at all!  So although you won’t see me out there caroling in my snow boots, Christmas will not be a silent night for me! Thanks for all...
